Why do we need gerontological nursing science?
The increasing life expectancy with an often long healthy phase is a pleasing development as it allows an active life in the third phase of life. However, health risks and problems increase with age, and professional care is often required that is tailored to the specific physical, social, mental, spiritual, cultural and spiritual needs of the elderly and guarantees the best possible quality of life. Professional nursing is based on the ethical principles of justice, care and autonomy and guarantees as much self-determination as possible until death.
