Nursing science in dialog:
VfP/API strengthens nursing research and role development at DGP conference in Berlin
Sabine Hahn met with Prof. Inge Eberl, Chair, and Prof. Dr. Sascha Köpke, Deputy Chair of the DGP, at the International Conference of the German Society for Nursing Science (DGP) in Berlin on May 8 and 9, 2025. The aim is to jointly promote the academic development of nursing and to support, coordinate and learn from each other in the development of roles in German-speaking countries. We will set priorities in further meetings.
The 4th International Conference of the DGP was a great success: around 300 participants from science, clinical practice and educational institutions in Germany and 13 other countries attended and contributed to a challenging program that covered a wide range of nursing research topics. Various VfP/API members (Prof. Dr. Franziska Zuniga, Prof. Dr. Michael Simon, Maisa Gerlach and Beatrice Geeri, among others) also presented research and development work from Switzerland. Review of the 2025 General Assembly - with fresh impetus, shared tasks and a bicycle in the lecture hall
This year's general meeting of the Association for Nursing Sciences (VfP) took place on May 22, 2025 at the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich. The Executive Board had already met in the morning - constructively and in a solution-oriented manner: Roles were redistributed, tasks were placed on several shoulders, thus creating a viable basis for the association's future work.
In the afternoon, almost 50 members gathered in the lecture hall - some of them simply carried their bikes inside. The location could not have been more fitting: This is exactly where the President had once taken her final exams - and was now confidently chairing the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Fritz Frauenfelder gave an exciting insight into the structure and development of the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich with its numerous locations - and gave an impressive account of the contribution his department makes to nursing science.
The agenda items were dealt with swiftly and there were no questions. The important will of Mrs. Rüedi was remembered with great thanks, which has enabled the VfP to provide targeted support for nursing science work not only in the past year, but also in the future.
The association bid farewell to Prof. Dr. Fritz Frauenfelder and Esther Bättig with much appreciation and thanked them for their many years of commitment. At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Angela Schnellig as a new member of the Board - she will bring fresh impetus and a great deal of expertise to the Association's future work.
The event concluded with a delicious aperitif - with lively exchanges, cultivated friendships and the opportunity to meet in person. For us in the secretariat, it was particularly nice to meet many members in person and to be able to answer questions directly.
All in all: a successful event
We are very grateful for the hospitality of the University Hospital Zurich - and especially to Simon Pauchard, whose support contributed significantly to the smooth running of the event.
Calls and announcements
End of funding: National license of the Cochrane Library expires in 2025
The national license for the Cochrane Library is currently financed mainly by the SAMS and other partners. The SAMS is ending its financial commitment for two reasons: It only supports projects for a limited period of time and it has to cut its budget due to decreasing federal funding. Nevertheless, the SAMS remains committed to evidence-based research. The SAMS is aware that a gap is emerging and has actively sought new funding partners. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to find an institution willing to take on this responsibility. All partners involved were informed of the situation at an early stage. The current national license expires on 31 December 2025. Further information can be found in the Newsletter SAMW: Cochrane Library
Care initiative: SBK criticizes inadequate implementation by the Federal Council
The SBK considers the dispatch on the implementation of the second stage of the care initiative submitted by the Federal Council for consultation today to be inadequate. Provisions for needs-based staffing and better financing of nursing care are completely missing. This is all the more disappointing as these issues are at the heart of the popular initiative, both for nursing staff and for the general public. It is also incomprehensible that the Federal Council has watered down its own original proposal to improve working conditions from summer 2024. Further information can be found at .
This exploratory, longitudinal, descriptive and correlative study aims to adapt, validate and implement a process for the continuous improvement of working conditions within the Fondation pour l'Aide et les Soins à Domicile-Jura (FASD) through management training.
The study will help to fill the gap in empirical data on the impact of measures to promote a healthy work environment, occupational health and retention of PDS in the home care sector in Switzerland.
The study was conducted and written by:
- Anne GerberphD, Senior Lecturer HES, Nursing
- Charlotte Gilart de Keranflec'hphD, Haute Ecoles de Santé Vaud (HESAV), Maître d'enseignement HES, Soins infirmiers
- Carole Délétroz PhD, Senior lecturer HES, Nursing
- Christian VoirolphD, Professor HES, Haute Ecole Arc Santé
- Laurent Seravalli, MD, MBA
